Hi, I'm Darren.
I approach hospitality through a systems-thinking lens.
A thriving venue isn't just about great food, beautiful design or good service. It's about how all the different parts work together — people, space, workflow, capacity, service and the customer experience.
And often, it's the fundamentals that get overlooked.
I look at things like:
Front-of-house awareness — how well teams understand the space, the customer journey and what's happening around them.
Hospitality vs. service — the difference between simply completing a task and creating an experience.
Back-of-house design — does the space look great on paper, but make life harder for the people working in it?
Employee workflow — where are unnecessary steps, bottlenecks or friction being created?
Pattern recognition — what are your team experiencing repeatedly that may be invisible to management?
Venue blind spots — what has become so familiar that nobody notices it anymore?
Capacity — where is the venue genuinely constrained, and where is capacity being lost through the way the system operates?
I’m particularly interested in the second- and third-order effects of decisions.
A solution can fix an obvious problem today while quietly creating three new problems further down the line.
My role is to step back, look at the venue from multiple perspectives, connect the dots and explore what happens when you change one part of the system.
