Mapping Your Young Hero’s Journey
Do you have a pre-teen or teenager who seems to be struggling?
Perhaps school is draining their spark. Maybe they're dealing with bullying, low confidence, uncertainty, difficult relationships, or simply trying to figure out who they are and where they fit.
I know something about that journey.
Hi, I'm Darren.
I was that kid.
I experienced bullying. I struggled with a schooling system that left me feeling like there were holes in my education — holes I later had to fill for myself.
And while leaving a difficult environment helped, it didn't automatically undo everything I'd learned from it. Some of those patterns followed me.
Over the years, I've worked through many of them.
I went on to graduate from university, travel to more than 40 countries, explore different ways of thinking and living, and do a lot of my own work around confidence, self-worth and the experiences I carried with me.
I'm still on that journey.
And that's important.
I'm not here to pretend I have everything figured out. I'm simply a few steps further along the path.
I see my role as a sidekick rather than someone who has all the answers.
A sidekick doesn't walk the journey for you.
They help you see things differently, notice what's happening, find your strengths, and work out your next move.
Every young person is different, so there isn't a rigid programme or one-size-fits-all formula.
Depending on what they're experiencing, we might explore:
Mindset — how they interpret challenges and setbacks
Self-worth & confidence — developing a healthier relationship with themselves
Self-awareness — noticing thoughts, reactions and recurring patterns
Pattern recognition — recognising what's happening beneath the surface
Responsibility — understanding what is within their control
Limiting beliefs — questioning ideas about themselves and what's possible
Functional movement — developing a better relationship with their body and physical capability
Money & financial awareness — beginning to understand practical life skills
Identity & direction — exploring who they are becoming and what matters to them
The work isn't about turning them into someone else.
It's about helping them understand themselves, recognise their strengths and build the tools to navigate their own journey.
I can't promise to save a young person from every difficult experience.
What I can offer is another perspective, a listening ear, curiosity, lived experience and a willingness to explore the bigger picture with them.
My approach is multidisciplinary because young people's lives are multidisciplinary too. School, friendships, confidence, family, money, movement, identity and expectations don't exist in separate boxes.
They all connect.
If your young person is struggling, let's have a conversation.
We can see if my experience, approach and personality are a good fit for them.
And if I'm not the right person, I'll tell you.
The journey is theirs. I'm just here to help them navigate it.
